Here we talk a little bit about the client, like how Mary and Huw moved into their Edwardian villa in 2017. After extensive internal renovations, they were ready for a garden that made sure their outside space was as beautiful as their inside space.
Ambitious clients and challenging sites always lead to striking designs. Our key challenge here was how to connect this elevated modern building extension to the garden below and woodland beyond?
Extending the lines and the visual language of the new building, we created an elegant ‘floating’ deck, in British larch, at tree canopy level. Planting pockets and the introduction of additional trees soften the overall aesthetic and bring the woodland in.
Steps down from the deck connect to a mid-level fire pit terrace and on from there to an expanse of garden that wraps around the building. A sequence of planked stepping stones within the lawn at the front creates a playful link to the many steps at the rear.
