In this month's ProLandscaper magazine I reflect on my landscaping journey, thoughts on the future and what I feel are the important corner stones of developing a successful design and build company. Very fond memories of constructing this garden at RHS Tatton flower show. The design was created by @aidancifelli_landscapes for the Young Designer of the Year 2019. A beautiful concept inspired by the west coast of Scotland. The concrete sculpture and steps reminiscent of marine engineering and architecture. All of the concrete was beautifully created by @davincidesignerconcrete. A big thanks to the Martins for their help with this! Grey Belgian pavers were kindly donated by @brickworksvandemoortel and supported by Miles Hebron. They complimented the smooth concrete so perfectly. The heart rate was going when the BBC we're filming us scribing the steps around the glacial boulders! The tones and textures of Aidan's coastal planting scheme looked fantastic in the low light of dusk. A lovely combo with the Pines from @deepdaletrees. This was our first show garden and it wouldn't have been possible without the help of Mark Youde from @urbanlandscapedesignltd and one of our almuni, George.

Taking it all the way back to 2018 with this steep terraced garden. If you've been to Bristol, you'll know it's not short of a few hills! This beautiful space is located in the neighbouring village of Long Ashton - a lovely spot just a stones throw across the river from Clifton. Our clients vision was to create harmony between their first floor living space and their lovingly nurtured mature garden. The tired and unsafe deck was in need of replacing and the access to down the garden was crying out to be reconfigured. We designed and constructed an oak framed and Kebony clad deck with rainwater harvesting. With the retaining wall built from site-won and local reclaimed rubblestone. A robust flight of porcelain steps cuts through the wall and provides transition between the terraces. The landscaping is the foundation of this garden but no design is complete without well considered planting to elegantly soften and dissolve it's hard edges. I love the natural rhythm of this scheme.

Wild Strawberrys are a brilliant way to include edibles within a planting scheme and, paired with aromatic Thyme, work wonderfully as textural groundcover. This snippet of our project does just that - limestone planks intertwined with Fragaria vesca and Thymus 'Coccineus. #gardenedibles #edibleplanting #ediblegardening #bristolgardendesign
