The modular, modern structure of this newly renovated property was the inspiration for the new garden, which is also enclosed by traditional rubble stone boundary walls.
Bespoke pale sawn Indian sandstone steps and rusted corten steel cladding define the character of the upper terraces. Their sharp contemporary lines softened by deep, colourful perennial planting in contrasting purples, yellows and burnt oranges.
The corten steel tones beautifully with the redder hues of the traditional stone walling surrounding the space and earthy, terracotta-coloured clay pavers paths of the productive vegetable garden. Here raised planters made in oak add a relaxed rustic twist.
The progression from clean, contemporary lines and materials to more natural textures are key to successfully connecting the new house and its environment.
CLIENT RESPONSE
What stood out most for us is the very high quality of the workmanship and attention to detail. Whatever the material they are working with they are able to get it just right and looking perfect. It helped that they were really enthusiastic about the project right the way through, listened to our ideas and really worked with us to bring those thoughts to life.
