Placed over the site of a once active cattle-yard, the gravel courtyard links gardens and outhouses to the main cottage. The palette setting stone of the putty walls required softening with enlarged planting beds, tall grasses and underpinned with the well-formed Buxus domes.

Having once been a productive farmyard, the subsurface ground was dense, hard and full of rubble, major excavation work was required to enable to the correct depth of planting medium, the installation of the rill and the addition of semi-mature trees.
