Located between the vibrant Gloucester Road and the Redland train line, the brief for this town garden design was to create a sanctuary for our clients to escape the trappings of the WFH lifestyle.
The existing garden had its time. Overgrown trees, shrubs and a sprawling bamboo divided the garden into shady and uninviting pockets. For a garden positioned so centrally in Bristol, it’s a generous and well-proportioned size, in desperate need of a considered garden design.
The lengthy garden has been divided by a Cedar & Larch pergola and Limestone terrace creating a rear space perfectly suited to the Pod Space garden office. Surrounded, by deep green shade-loving foliage the office is discreetly nestled at the base of the wild and mature embankment.
Moving back towards the house, Siberian Larch screening flanks the garden and provides a warm textured backdrop to the herbaceous borders and multi-stem trees. A cluster of Amalanchier lamarckii sits on the edge of grey Limestone batts and creeping Thyme planting gaps.
Stone paved steps and tiered planting cascade down to the Crittal glazed basement office bringing the garden into the workspace.
Artisan Landscapes delivered us a total garden renovation that has been life changing. Our neglected and underwhelming city plot has become a haven, every inch of it considered in a thoughtful and exciting design and build process. Their patience and phenomenal attention to detail has ensured that the new garden includes everything we wished for. But they’ve given us so much more. Design ideas, material selection, build quality and beautiful planting all exceeded our expectations. We are very happy clients, thrilled to have collaborated with Artisan on our project. We enjoy the results of their talent and craftsmanship every day and we’d do it all again in a heartbeat. G + J
